1/ L'Ecot

Please note :
Discover the remarkable hamlet of l'Ecot, a conservation area and an ancient permanent settlement.

Description :
Starting out from the hamlet of Tralenta, follow the trail on the right bank of the Arc up until l'Ecot. After having followed the first part of the Arc, the trail then rises over a mass of fallen rocks - the scree of Fodan - in which a legend exists about the village which was threatened by being swallowed up. Then the trail continues on its merry way right up until the l'Ecot.

2/ La Duis

Please note :
A very nice trail that leads to the chalets situated in the middle of the mountain pastures.

Description :
Starting from the car park of l'Ecot, follow the pastoral route on the right bank of the Arc until coming to the chalets of La Duis at the top. This route is entirely within the confines of the Vanoise National Park.

3/ The Carro Refuge

Please note :
Le refuge du Carro is situated near the Lac Blanc and the Lac Noir and dominated by the Aiguilles Rousses (3482m) and the Levanna Occidentale (3593m). It is about the highest refuge in the Vanoise.

Description :
Refuge du CAF is upkept and resupplied. Starting out from the car park of l'Ecot, follow the agricultural route that leads to the bottom of the Duis valley. After la Duis, at the bottom, bypass la Thuilière and le Montet. The marked trail rejoins the balcony trail to the west of the refuge. This route is entirely within the confines of the Parc National de la Vanoise (Vanoise National Park).

4/ Le Refuge du Carro by the balcony trail

Very beautiful view over the Haute-Maurienne massif and the glacial range.

Description :
Refuge du CAF is upkept and resupplied. Starting out from the car park of the pont de l'Oulietta, head south along the wide and well marked out balcony trail until arriving at the refuge. This route is entirely within the confines of the Parc National de la Vanoise (Vanoise National Park).

5/ Le Saut (possibility of a connection between the hamlet of l'Ecot and the balcony trail)

Beautiful view over most of the high valley.

Description :
Starting out from the car park, take the path which climbs to the left in the direction of l'Ecot. After coming to the first ruined houses of Mollard, branch off to the right then follow the marked out route up until a place called "le Saut." This route is partly in the Parc National de la Vanoise (Vanoise National Park). By continuing along this route up until Reys (2642m), the balcony trail is rejoined which leads to the refuge du Carro (route n°4).

6/ Les Reys high up by le saut (unmarked route)

Beautiful view over the top of the valley.

Description :
Starting out from Le Saut (cf. route n°5), follow the marked out trail which leads to the plateau des Reys and continue right up to the last chalet (les Reys high up). This route is entirely within the confines of the Parc National de la Vanoise (Vanoise National Park).

7/ The Sources of l'Arc

Discover the glacial geology (seracs, moraines…).

Description :
Starting out from l'Ecot, follow route n°2 until la Tuilière. Continue along this agricultural trail until the last chalets of La Duis. Cross the stream using a footbridge and follow the marked out trail up until the basin of the Arc's sources. This route is entirely within the confines of the Parc National de la Vanoise (Vanoise National Park).

8/ The Evettes Refuge by the Plan des Roches

One-way 2 h, returning 3 h 45

Please note :
A conservation area and an exceptional glacial cirque. A great variety of protected flowers. The refuge is situated on a rocky bar, surrounded bu summits that are, in the main, more than 3000m high. Near the refuge are the lakes of Pareis and the waterfall of La Reculaz.

Description :
Refuge du CAF is upkept and resupplied. From l'Ecot, take the well marked trail which rises up on the left bank of the Arc leading to the cirque des Evettes. Return taking the same route.
