3 cool spots in Bonneval sur Arc
Recognized as a Land of Alpinism by UNESCO, Bonneval sur Arc is a gateway to the mountains.
Thanks to its altitude, the heat is not felt in Bonneval sur Arc as much as lower down in the valley. However, at 1800m it can get hot, even very hot during the day. Just go a little higher towards the Col de l'Iseran, the glacial peaks surrounding the village, or discover the sources of the Arc, the river that flows through the Maurienne valley and offers a great canyoning site.
Canyoning at l’Ecot
The Ecot canyon is a well-known site in the region for canyoning in a remarkable natural environment.
The Arc river, which formed the Maurienne valley, has its source just a little higher up, at the foot of the glaciers. Jumping into the torrent or sliding on the natural toboggans to arrive in water at around ten degrees makes this spot the best place to escape the heat! Take advantage of your holidays to discover this activity open to children over 8 years old.
The breath of the glaciers
Head towards the glacial cirque of the Evettes and then the Grand Méan glacier, simply splendid with its lake where icebergs float. Up there, a light jacket is essential, even when there is a heatwave in the valley: at the foot of the glacier, the air is instantly colder.
The ascent can be made via the Gorges de la Reculaz, where you can also admire a powerful waterfall, and the return via the classic path of the Cirque des Evettes. You'll have had your fill of freshness, as well as a feast for the eyes.
High mountain balcony trail
On one side, the Iseran pass at 2770m - the highest road pass in Europe - and on the other side, the Carro refuge at 2760m - the highest refuge in Savoie. In between, a balcony path. A hike in the alpine pastures, without too much elevation gain or technical difficulties. Walk along the Pys and Plan des Eaux lakes, then recharge your batteries by the Noir and Blanc lakes just behind the Carro refuge.
A little suggestion for an unforgettable adventure: book your night at the refuge and, in the early morning, enjoy the superb panorama of the Haute Maurienne Vanoise glaciers in the rising sun.
